Fear Is a Liar

Fear tells you that you are too far gone, too broken, too much. Scripture tells a different story — and it has been telling it for thousands of years.

Fear Is a Liar

Fear is persuasive.

It speaks in your own voice. It uses your own memories, your own failures, your own wounds as evidence. It builds a case against you that feels airtight. And then it delivers its verdict:

You are too far gone. Too broken. Too much. Not enough. Beyond repair.

The verdict feels true because it is delivered from the inside. But it is a lie. And it has been a lie from the beginning.

The Most Repeated Command in Scripture

Do you know what the most frequently repeated command in the entire Bible is?

"Do not be afraid."

It appears in some form over 365 times — once for every day of the year, as if God knew we would need the reminder daily. It is spoken to Abraham, to Moses, to Joshua, to Mary, to the disciples, to John on the island of Patmos. It is spoken to ordinary people in impossible situations who had every human reason to be terrified.

And every time it is spoken, it comes with a reason.

Not "Do not be afraid because everything will be easy."

Not "Do not be afraid because nothing bad will happen."

But "Do not be afraid — because I am with you."

Isaiah 41:10:

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

The antidote to fear is not the absence of danger. It is the presence of God.

What Fear Does to Us

Fear is not just an emotion. It is a strategy. It keeps us small. It keeps us isolated. It keeps us from reaching out, from asking for help, from believing that things can be different.

Fear tells the veteran that no one will understand, so why try. Fear tells the first responder that showing weakness will cost them everything. Fear tells the person in crisis that they are beyond the reach of help. Fear tells the one searching for hope that they have wandered too far to find their way back.

Every one of those is a lie.

The Name of This Foundation

We did not choose the name Faith Over Fear because it sounds good on a patch. We chose it because it is the daily reality of what it means to follow Jesus.

Faith does not eliminate fear. Faith does not pretend fear does not exist. Faith looks fear in the face and says: I see you. But I know Someone bigger than you. And I am going to trust Him.

2 Timothy 1:7:

"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."

Power. Love. Self-discipline. That is what God puts in you. Not timidity. Not fear. Not the spirit of defeat.

Today

Whatever fear is speaking to you today — whatever verdict it is trying to deliver — we want you to hold it up against the truth of Scripture.

You are not too far gone. You are not beyond repair. You are not forgotten.

You are known. You are loved. And the God who spoke the universe into existence has not lost track of you.

Fear is a liar. Faith is greater.
