The Road Ahead

Every long ride begins with a single turn of the throttle. So does every step of faith. You do not need to see the whole road — just the next mile.

The Road Ahead

There is something about sitting on a motorcycle at the edge of an open highway that strips everything down to what is real. The noise of the world falls away. The weight you have been carrying — the regret, the worry, the what-ifs — it all gets quiet for a moment. And in that quiet, there is a question that rises up from somewhere deep:

What is ahead of me?

Most of us spend enormous energy trying to answer that question. We plan, we prepare, we worry. We want to see the whole road before we commit to riding it. But faith does not work that way. And neither, if we are honest, does life.

You Only Need the Next Mile

Proverbs 3:5-6 says it plainly:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Notice what it does not say. It does not say God will hand you a map. It does not say you will understand every turn before you take it. It says trust — and then submit — and then He will make your paths straight.

That is a promise for the road, not a promise for the planning table.

When you ride at night, your headlight only illuminates about 200 feet ahead. But that is enough. You do not need to see the whole highway. You just need to see what is in front of you right now, and trust that the road continues.

Faith works the same way.

When the Road Feels Uncertain

Maybe you are reading this in a season where the road ahead looks dark. A diagnosis. A broken relationship. A job that disappeared. A grief that will not lift. The horizon feels like a wall instead of an opening.

Here is what we know from Scripture and from hard-won experience: God does not waste a mile. Every stretch of difficult road has something in it — something being built in you, something being cleared from your path, something being prepared just around the bend that you cannot yet see.

Romans 8:28 is not a bumper sticker. It is a lifeline:

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

All things. Not the easy things. Not the things that make sense. All things.

A Prayer for the Road

If you are standing at the edge of something unknown today — a new chapter, a hard season, a decision you cannot fully see — here is a simple prayer:

Lord, I cannot see what is ahead. I do not understand the road I am on. But I trust that You do. I trust that You are already there, ahead of me, making the path straight. Give me the courage to turn the throttle and ride. One mile at a time. Amen.

The road ahead belongs to God. You just have to be willing to ride it.

Ride with faith. Not with fear.
